200 people in a room! Wire in the postal station!
There are old men who do not can anymore. Actually still interested appearances by Sex Pistols PIL, respectively? Will you REALLY still the Buzzcocks on stage? NoFX or or or?
With Wire are behaving differently: firstly, that the Band six years ago for the third time re-invented. Second, the now only three band members are traveling with their own projects in art and music. This holds obviously awake, young and fit and also retains about to persist in outdated poses and scare the audience with a back catalog. This worked out of style also protects against the way the guys from Gang of Four in Nu-Metal-fields to drift.
State of the Art is a clear and unpeinliche because wire-appropriate, shift towards the punk rock with occasional escapees in what was formerly called Artpunk well. This trend is already starting at the penultimate album. Occasionally they also borrowed from the Ideal-Copy / A-Bell-is-a-Cup-phase. As before, the band refuses to (multiple) call classics like 12XU: play (or as a beer punk screamed IXO2) and plays out of spite, malice and mischievousness simply the slowest piece of the current drive.
All this comes live over surprisingly well: Clearly, the three men more sedate age (accompanied by a very young second guitarist) no stage acrobatics (and probably was never), it jumps to about 20 minutes slightly boring performance but actually pure energy to the audience and adheres to the end extended after two encores. And, although Colin Newman looks with his reading glasses now like a arrivierter architect, Graham Lewis like a bit more willing Pitt Bull look at his art, his not quite sure where gaunt Robert Grey know if he collapses from exhaustion is not equal to his drums (he is not!).
played a few years ago on Wire Maria am Ostbahnhof a disappointing tour with a net playing time of 30 minutes including encore. They reeled there any song (improvised listless?) Down, only to disappear and then only after 20 minutes, audience howling even a song (improvised without love?) Give the best. From this listlessness yesterday evening was not in evidence. Sure it was a skillful blend of flawless pop songs à la Wire, avant-garde (= noise) and aggressive punk rock. Taking the men but did well and happy. The can's still!
PS What actually very bad habit to leave so early concerts begin at 19:30 clock (and not, as claimed on home page and map to 20pm)? Support the "Weekend" I would really like to see. Not mind if it is started on time. Who likes to spend hours on tape. But now I feel cheated by the organizers ...
